One of the best things about playing Dungeons and Dragons is that you never actually know what could happen. Sometimes those surprises are gold.
In the course of one day we have to deal with a slimy Mayor, meet a legendary wrestler, learn about Claire’s darker side, and watch our thief fall off a rope. I can guarantee that none of us thought that any of that would happen when we walked in that day.
That may be one of the reasons I’ve grown to love playing this game so much. We’re building the story each time we play through our weird decisions and unpredictable die rolls. Not only that, the system is flexible enough so that whatever you want to do, you can. For example, do you want a professional wrestler modelled after “Macho Man” Randy Savage? You can do that.
And that’s just what Brandon did. He took the Monk class from the 5th Edition rules and tweaked some of the words to make it sound just like a hero from the WCW. Talk about dedication. His commitment to that character made the entire encounter so much more enjoyable for all of us. Not only that, I learned what Randy Savage’s real name was.
